Driven: A Juried Exhibition of 15 Award-Winning emerging
artists with disabilities
VSA arts and Volkswagon
of America have partnered to recognize and showcase young U.S. artists with
disabilities.
This national exhibit will be in the Porter Butts
Gallery in the UW Memorial Union in Madison June 6 - July 22.
Location: 2nd floor, Memorial Union, 800 Langdon
St., Madison
Hours: 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily This collaboration supports these artists at a critical time when many are
deciding whether to pursue the arts as a career. The award validates and helps
finance that life-defining choice. VSA arts sent more than 20,000 calls for
entry to high schools and colleges around the country, inviting submissions
that illustrated the theme: "Driven." Selected from 204 submissions, these
15 finalists were awarded a total of $60,000 generously provided by Volkswagon
of American, Inc.
Sights Unseen - an exhibit by Albert Schmiege
This exhibit will also be on display at the UW Memorial Union June 6 -
July 22, in the Class of 1925 Gallery. Schmiege, who has participated in
VSA arts of Wisconsin programming, has a form of macular degeneration called
Stargardt's disease. His paintings will be on exhibit and available for
sale during the exhibition.
